Washington, D.C., October 28, 2026 – National Parents Union President Keri Rodrigues issued the following statement on the passing of civil rights icon and labor leader Dolores Huerta:

“Rest in Power, Dolores Huerta. La lucha sigue.

Today, we mourn the loss of a giant. A warrior. A mother. A revolutionary. A woman who did not simply demand a better world, but devoted her entire life to building one. For 96 years, Dolores Huerta showed us what ordinary people can accomplish when they come together to fight for justice.

The National Parents Union was not even a year old when Dolores stood together with us to help guide our work of organizing as an act of love and that solidarity is our responsibility. She showed us that lasting change is built by people united in purpose.Dolores understood something fundamental about justice: Power is never given freely to the people who need it most. It must be organized, built, and exercised together. She was a key inspiration for our EPIC campaigns across the nation – Everyday Parents Impacting Change.

She challenged us to help organize the forgotten, challenged the powerful, and made the invisible impossible to ignore. She sacrificed so much, endured so much, and never stopped fighting for the dignity of working people.

Her life was proof that courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision to act anyway. That movements are built by people willing to give more of themselves than the world has any right to ask.

We owe Dolores Huerta more than our gratitude. We owe her our action.

Rest in power, Dolores. The world is different because you lived. And the world must continue to change because you taught us how.

¡SÍ SE PUEDE!”
