Washington, D.C., May 19, 2026 – National Parents Union President Keri Rodrigues released the following statement in response to the San Diego Mosque Shooting.
“We are grieving with the Muslim families of San Diego. Your children deserve to walk into their school and their masjid without fear, and we will say that every single time it needs to be said.
A 17 year old in crisis should not have access to multiple weapons. A suicidal teenager should be met with help, not an arsenal. A mother who calls for help should not be racing the clock against her own son.
At the National Parents Union, we are not going to stop fighting until our kids can go to school, to mosque, to church, to synagogue, to temple, to the grocery store, to the movies, without their parents wondering if today is the day.
This cannot be the price of raising children in America. Not for Muslim families and not for any family. We owe our children more than prayers after tragedy — we owe them safety, dignity, and the freedom to simply grow up.”
