Washington, D.C., February 25, 2026 – National Parents Union President Keri Rodrigues issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s State of the Union address:
“President Trump can call it a ‘roaring economy.’ Parents know better.
Families are struggling to afford groceries, rent, child care, and health care. We keep hearing that prices are ‘coming down,’ but that’s not what parents see at the grocery store and as we try to provide for our families. Millions are being pushed off food assistance, and working families are still waiting to see the benefits of these so-called historic tax cuts. That’s not relief, it’s chaos and it’s unsustainable for families who are on the brink.
Instead of focusing on lowering costs, this speech focused on division. The President talked about safety, but many parents don’t feel safe. They don’t want ICE activity near their children’s schools or fear in their communities, they want stability and opportunity.
The real measure of this economy isn’t a headline; it’s whether families can get through the week without choosing between groceries and prescriptions. It’s whether parents can go to work without the fear of being separated from their children. Right now, too many can’t.
Parents don’t need a two-hour speech to keep us up past bedtime; our bank accounts already do that. We need solutions. It’s time to stop the gaslighting and start delivering, Mr. President.”
