Washington, D.C., March 17, 2026 – National Parents Union President Keri Rodrigues issued the following statement regarding the Science of Reading Act:
“The National Parents Union celebrates the advancement of the Science of Reading Act. This is the kind of progress parents and families have been demanding for years: real action to ensure every child has access to high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction.
For too long, our nation’s literacy crisis has left millions of children- disproportionately those in underserved communities- without the foundational skills they need to succeed. The Science of Reading Act represents a meaningful commitment to changing that trajectory by investing in what works.
We agree with Ranking Member Scott: that “literacy is not a partisan issue.” Every parent, every educator, and every policymaker should be united around the simple truth that all children deserve to learn to read and to read well.
We are encouraged by this progress and look forward to continued congressional action to address the nation’s literacy crisis with the urgency it demands. Families cannot afford to wait, and neither can our children.”
