Washington, DC – November 18, 2025 – National Parents Union President, Keri Rodrigues, released the following statement regarding the Trump Administration’s move to dismantle the Department of Education:
“The Trump Administration has once again chosen to weaponize America’s children, using them as political pawns to divert attention from its own cascading failures. This effort to dismantle critical programs at the U.S. Department of Education is an attack on students and families, a cynical distraction from misconduct, and a direct affront to Congress’s constitutional authority. This is not hypothetical. Children will be harmed immediately.
Transferring responsibilities from the Department of Education to the Department of Labor undermines the very purpose of public education. Created by Congress, the Department’s role cannot be erased or reassigned through executive action alone. Any attempt to do so is unconstitutional. At a time when the public demands transparency regarding the Epstein files, the Administration has instead launched a chaotic assault on education. Families see this clearly: a political diversion, not a vision for better schools.
We deserve a Department of Education that protects students, not one dismantled for political convenience. Public education has never been about turning children into factory workers, it has always been about preparing creators, innovators, and dreamers who will shape the future of our nation. By destabilizing the Department of Education, the Administration is undermining America’s long-term ability to compete, innovate, and lead on the world stage. Congress must reject this misguided action and defend the rights, futures, and global potential of the students they serve.”
