Washington, DC, November 4, 2025 – This week, the National Parents Union alongside the Community Economic Development Center of Southeastern Massachusetts (CEDC), the National Korean American Service and Educational Consortium (NAKASEC), and UndocuBlack Network filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts against Acting Commissioner of IRS and Secretary of Treasury, the IRS, the Commissioner of the Social Security Administration, the SSA, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and ICE challenging the IRS’s unlawful sharing of confidential taxpayer information with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) which the plaintiffs argue endangers mixed-status and immigrant families and violates federal privacy protections.
The President of the National Parents Union Keri Rodrigues said:
“Across this nation, parents are being torn from their homes, their jobs, and even from the school drop-off line, ripped away from their children in moments that should be filled with love, learning, and hope. Families who have done everything right, who file their taxes, follow the rules, and contribute to their communities, now live in terror because the very government institutions meant to protect them have betrayed their trust.
The National Parents Union joined this lawsuit because our families are under attack by a system that values surveillance over safety and fear over fairness. The IRS and the Social Security Administration have turned over confidential tax information to immigration enforcement, putting parents and children directly in harm’s way. This is not only unlawful; it is inhumane.
When a mother is afraid to drive her child to school because ICE could be waiting, when a father skips filing his taxes because he fears being deported for doing what’s right, when a child cries every morning afraid their parents won’t be there at pickup, that is not the America we believe in.
We are fighting to stop the government from weaponizing trust. No parent should have to choose between feeding their children and keeping them safe. No child should grow up believing that learning and love come at the expense of losing your family.
This lawsuit is about restoring dignity, safety, and justice for every family, no matter where they were born, what language they speak, or what papers they carry. We will not rest until every parent in this country can once again believe that doing the right thing will not destroy their family.”
