Washington, DC, November 1, 2025 – National Parents Union President Keri Rodrigues released the following statement in response to the interruption of SNAP benefits:
“Today, millions of families across America woke up to a terrifying message: ‘NO BALANCE FOUND.’ Their SNAP benefits never arrived. This is not an accident. The Trump administration made a deliberate and unlawful choice to defy both Congress and a federal court order by refusing to fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
This cruel and illegal action has left parents across the nation wondering how they will feed their children tonight. It is a moral disgrace and a direct assault on America’s working families, the very people who keep our communities running. Food is not a privilege. It is a basic human right.
Meanwhile, Speaker Mike Johnson continues to hold the legislative process hostage, keeping the House of Representatives out of session for an entire month while families struggle to survive. This is a moral failure and a betrayal of the people our leaders are sworn to serve.
The National Parents Union calls on every member of Congress to return to Washington immediately and restore food assistance for America’s families. Our children’s well-being cannot wait.
We stand with every parent and child impacted by this cruelty. We will not sit quietly while politicians play games with our children’s lives. We demand immediate restoration of benefits, accountability for those who ignored the law, and lasting reforms to ensure families are never used as political pawns again.”
