Washington, DC, October 30, 2025 – National Parents Union President Keri Rodrigues released the following statement in response to U.S. senators stepping up to protect SNAP:
“The National Parents Union applauds the bipartisan leadership in the U.S. Senate for stepping up to protect SNAP benefits for millions of Americans. Parents are relieved to see Leader Schumer, Senator Hawley, and a bipartisan group of senators working together to say what should be obvious: feeding America’s families is not political, it is moral.
One in five kids in this country relies on SNAP benefits to eat. The introduction and bipartisan support of the Keep SNAP Funded Act is a positive step toward protecting this lifeline for families who are terrified about how to keep food on the table. Parents are paying attention, and we see the senators who are putting kids before politics to make sure no child goes hungry during this shutdown.
But while the Senate is beginning to show leadership, the House of Representatives has been on vacation for a month. Speaker Johnson is missing in action, handing away Congress’s responsibility to govern. That is not leadership, that is negligence.
Parents have had enough. It is time for the House of Representatives to get off the sidelines, get back to Washington, and do their job. Get on a plane today and vote to feed America’s children.”
