“Parents are skipping meals so their kids can eat… every trip to the grocery store feels like a gut punch”
Washington, DC, October 24, 2025 – National Parents Union President Keri Rodrigues released the following statement following the latest inflation report:
“Instead of a season of joy, families are heading into a season of economic pain. This morning’s inflation report confirmed what American families have felt all year: the cost of everyday essentials is crushing our ability to feed our children and pay the bills on time.
As we head into the holiday season, families are watching with frustration as government dysfunction and indifference make it harder to hold onto the American Dream. Across this country, parents are skipping meals so their kids can eat; drivers are stopping at a quarter tank, praying it lasts until payday; and every trip to the grocery store feels like a gut punch. The list of worries goes on for too many Americans trying to make ends meet.
As the weather turns cold, families hesitate to turn on the heat all while the President spends hundreds of millions on a new ballroom. And starting November 1, families who rely on SNAP will have even less help, just as prices are climbing at the fastest rate since January.
This should be a season of joy and togetherness, but for too many Americans, it’s shaping up to be a season of struggle while lawmakers look the other way.”
