August 26, 2025, Boston, MA – National Parents Union President Keri Rodrigues released the following statement in response to a report published by tech watchdog organization Tech Transparency Project on Meta’s alleged influence tactics:

“Parents across the country will not sit quietly while Big Tech and companies like Meta gamble with our kids’ lives. A new investigation by the Tech Transparency Project finds what parents have long known: child safety cannot be outsourced to corporations whose profits depend on keeping young people online.

This is a critical moment for American families. Parents know how technology and social media shape our children’s lives, while Big Tech continues to shamelessly roll out half-measures, promote flashy “safety tools,” and fund organizations to deflect scrutiny and delay meaningful accountability and regulatory measures.

This moment demands strong and independent voices that parents can trust, voices unafraid to call out the truth. The future of our children cannot be entrusted to the very corporations that have created breeding grounds for exploitation and harmful content. Parents will not be misled.

We call on policymakers, educators, and families to demand real protections centered on the welfare of children.”
