Washington, DC, July 25, 2025 – Today, National Parents Union President Keri Rodrigues released the following statement in response to the Trump administration finally releasing more than $5 billion in frozen education funds – a major victory for America’s families.
“This was the result of state advocacy and governors – from both red states and blue – who stood up for children. It was parents and educators who locked arms and demanded answers. It was families, advocates, and legal champions who took their fight to the courts and forced this administration to back down.
“While we celebrate this hard-earned win, we must also call out the members of Congress who allowed this chaos to unfold in the first place and continue to relegate their power as the third branch of government while the administration dismantles support for our schools. The fact that critical education funding could be arbitrarily frozen for weeks without swift intervention is an unacceptable failure. School districts in every corner of the country were thrown into turmoil at a time when they had intended to prepare for the new school year. Hiring plans were put on hold. Services for the most vulnerable students were threatened.
“At the National Parents Union, we are proud to stand with every parent, educator, governor, and advocate who refused to sit this one out. You showed the country what real leadership looks like. We’ll also remember those who either tried to excuse the cuts or stayed silent. Our children deserve better than to be used as pawns in political games. They deserve stability, support, and serious leadership. What they do not deserve is the endless chaos raining down on school districts from the Trump administration, the funding delays, the mixed messages, the manufactured crises.
“Enough is enough. We are calling for an end to the uncertainty. An end to the political brinkmanship. An end to the reckless disregard for the needs of children and families. If our leaders in Washington cannot prioritize the basic functioning of our public education system, then they have no business holding power.”
