“You cannot call yourself pro-life or pro-family while voting to starve children and bankrupt their parents. This bill is fiscal violence against American families.”
July 1, 2025, Washington, DC –The National Parents Union is raising serious concerns on the Senate passage of the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill,” warning that it will have devastating effects on millions of families across the United States.
“You cannot call yourself pro-life or pro-family while voting to starve children and bankrupt their parents. This bill is fiscal violence against American families,” said Keri Rodrigues, President of the National Parents Union. “Stripping health care and food assistance from millions of people, while offering tax breaks to the wealthiest, is not just bad policy, it’s a betrayal of the American people. Any politician who thinks they can quietly vote to gut programs our families rely on is in for a rude awakening. Families across the country are ready to fight back.”
Republicans Chose Cuts Over Kids
The legislation includes significant cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, placing nearly 20 million Americans at risk of losing health coverage. In North Carolina alone, an estimated 650,000 people could lose access to care. Missouri faces 265,000 at risk, and in West Virginia, 82,000 residents may be affected.
Republicans Chose Hunger Over Help
The bill also reduces Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, threatening access to food for over 2 million families nationwide.
Republicans Chose the Wealthy Over Working Families
The minuscule tax cuts available to the lowest-earning families do not offset the thousands more that they will pay in food and healthcare costs. This bill is not fiscal responsibility – it robs hard working Americans to enrich the elite. It’s a betrayal of the most basic promises we make to our children and families: that they will have food, care, and a shot at a healthy future.
The National Parents Union is urging lawmakers to reconsider the long-term impact of these cuts, particularly on children, working parents, and vulnerable communities who depend on these programs for stability and survival.
