National Parents Union Condemns House Passage of Cruel Republican Reconciliation Bill

May 22, 2025, Boston, MA – Today, National Parents Union President Keri Rodrigues released the following statement in response to the House passage of Republicans’ cruel reconciliation bill, which would gut healthcare and hurt hardworking families across the country:

“The National Parents Union strongly condemns the House of Representatives for advancing legislation under the cover of darkness that would strip millions of families of critical healthcare and food assistance all in the service of providing tax breaks that disproportionately benefit the wealthiest Americans. This is a shameful and cynical move that disregards the wellbeing of children and families across the nation.

“At a time when working families are already struggling with rising costs, housing insecurity, and economic instability, Congress should be finding ways to support, not sabotage, the very people who keep our communities strong. Sneaking these devastating cuts through in the dead of night shows not only a lack of transparency, but a blatant disregard for the everyday Americans who rely on these essential lifelines.

“The bill also hurts our public education system by making it more difficult for low- and middle-income families to obtain college aid while simultaneously creating a massive new private school voucher program that will divert billions of taxpayer dollars away from the public education system.

“We will not stand by while lawmakers play political games with our children’s futures. The National Parents Union calls on every member of the Senate to reject this cruel legislation and to center the voices of parents and families in every policy decision. We demand accountability, transparency, and a government that works for all families—not just the wealthy and well-connected.”
