July 26, 2024, BOSTON, MA  — The National Parents Union released a statement following the introduction of the Summer for All Act by Senator Murphy.

The National Parents Union said:

Today, the National Parents Union proudly celebrates the introduction of the Summer for All Act by Senator Murphy. This landmark legislation marks a significant step forward in ensuring that every child across America has access to enriching summer opportunities.

The Summer for All Act proposes the creation of two new federal competitive grant programs aimed at expanding summer programming nationwide. These programs will focus on supporting students who qualify for free and reduced lunch, students who are often absent, and students living in areas with limited summer options.

By empowering states to design programs that best meet their needs, the Summer for All Act offers a versatile approach. Whether through providing stipends to parents for selecting summer activities or enhancing existing programs to reach more children, this legislation prioritizes flexibility and inclusivity.

For parents across the country, summer is a challenging time to balance child care, learning, and fun, all while navigating an economy that leaves many living paycheck to paycheck. The Summer for All Act represents a crucial step toward alleviating these pressures, ensuring that children have access to valuable summer learning experiences and parents receive much-needed relief.

We commend Senator Murphy for his dedication to our nation’s children and families, and we look forward to supporting the passage of the Summer for All Act. Together, we can create a brighter, more equitable future for all students.
